Barton says the Victorian regulator has allowed Uber to dominate within the state

Victorian politician Rod Barton has criticised the best way Uber has been dealt with in Victorian transport rules as information circles round Uber’s strategy in Australia.
Recently greater than 124,000 confidential paperwork had been linked to Britain’s Guardian newspaper outlining Uber’s strategy, together with techniques to dodge and undermine regulators.
Barton says none of this information is shocking to him as he condemns the best way Victorian regulators allowed Uber to dominate the rideshare market within the state.
While Uber deliberate to spend $90 million in 2016 on lobbying and public relations, Victorian taxi drivers needed to deal with the state authorities legalising Uber and de-regulating the taxi trade.
“The Victorian regulator in Commercial Passenger Vehicles Victoria (CPVV) has been played off a break,” Barton says.

“They bent over backwards to allow Uber into the market, even allowing them into the Multi-Purpose Taxi Program, which is a fare subsidy for those with a disability.”
After Uber first acquired into the rideshare sport in 2014, Barton says Victoria now has round 120,000 drivers on state roads combating for smaller earnings by the day.
He says the de-regulation of the taxi trade and the legitimising of Uber has come at a price for Victoria’s transport trade.
“The regulator will likely plead ignorance when it comes to what they knew about Uber’s business practices, but no one can be so blind,” Barton says.
“I think a number of Uber advocates may now be asking themselves if Uber is a fit and proper entity to be operating in Victoria.”
