Battery safety warning after e-scooter fire

Crews have issued safety recommendation after an electrical scooter caught fire in Dovercourt.
Firefighters have been known as to Chaffinch Drive immediately at 12.55pm and located an e-scooter alight.
Crews extinguished the fire and made certain the e-scooter was utterly cool by 1.22pm.
Station Manager Jason Gould mentioned: “The proprietor was fixing the rear mud guard and by accident broken the battery pack, which began to spark and trigger small explosions earlier than catching fire.
“The proprietor was capable of transfer the scooter outdoors and name 999, and our crew was rapidly on the scene.
“The incident highlights the hazards of lithium battery packs, which are used in most e-scooters. If the batteries are damaged there is a risk they will catch fire, so please check your battery regularly.”
E-scooter safety recommendation
- Buy your e-scooter from a good retailer and comply with the producer’s steering on charging and storing
- Store your e-scooter outdoors and away from escape routes
- Always cost it in the course of the day when you find yourself at dwelling
- Do not over-charge it – as soon as it’s absolutely charged, unplug it and switch the charger off
- Register it at registermyappliance
- Avoid storing, utilizing or charging batteries at very excessive or low temperatures
- Check your battery frequently. If it will get broken it may catch fire
