Any summer plans for late-night scooting by means of downtown Detroit have been thwarted by a brand new curfew established by metropolis officers.
The curfew, first reported by Outlier Media, applies to rentable electrical scooters in Detroit’s Central Business District, bordered by the John C. Lodge Freeway, Interstate 75, Interstate 375 and the Detroit River. In cooperation with scooter operators, scooters will likely be shut down in this space between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. Fridays and Saturdays.
The curfew was introduced by the Detroit Police Department throughout a press convention addressing summer security efforts, together with elevated patrolling in Greektown and drag racing restrictions.

Electric scooters working in Detroit embrace Lime, Bird, Spin, LINK scooters operated by Superpedestrian and Boaz Bikes. During the curfew and inside the designated space, enforcement by the operators varies, however some scooters will function at lowered speeds or permit riders to complete their already activated journeys.
The metropolis has not decided when the summer curfew will finish, Outlier studies.
For these planning to spend their summer days on a scooter, listed below are some security precautions to bear in mind:
- Don’t drink and experience
- Ride in bike lanes, not sidewalks
- If potential, put on a helmet
- Don’t double experience, scooters are meant for one rider at a time
- Watch out for pedestrians
