HONOLULU (KHON2) — Experts say electric bikes are motorized, and so they can go as much as 28 miles per hour. Anyone 18 and over can get a registration and bicycle legal guidelines apply.
“They only make it go so fast for that safety aspect,” stated Reese Kato from the BikeFactory Hawaii.

Although there are safeguards in place, there have been lethal crashes involving electric bikes. Last December, a 53-year-old Mililani lady died after falling off her e-bike. Last month, a 10-year-old and 12-year-old boy have been in critical situation after being hit by a automotive whereas using an e-bike. On Sunday, a 13-year-old boy’s life was lower quick after veering into oncoming site visitors in Waipahu.

“You have to be 18 or older to have a bike registered so we don’t typically sell them to kids,” Kato stated.
