PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — Police are investigating a sequence of carjackings in and round downtown Portsmouth involving ride service or delivery drivers.

According to police, all three incidents occurred on Sunday, January 30. Two automobiles have been stolen from rideshare drivers, whereas a 3rd car was stolen from a delivery driver.
The first incident occurred round 12:06 a.m. close to the intersection of High Street and Godwin Street. Police say they have been flagged down by a person who mentioned he had been carjacked. He advised police that he was driving 4 individuals when one pulled a gun on him and stole his car.
No one was injured, and his car was later stolen.
Almost 5 hours later, at 4:55 a.m., officers have been once more flagged down by a person who mentioned he had been carjacked. He advised police that he was choosing up two males from the 900 block of Naval Avenue after they pulled a gun, robbed him, and took his burgundy 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe SUV.
No one was injured, and his Santa Fe has since been recovered.
On Sunday afternoon, officers responded to a theft report back to a person close to the 2500 block of Peach Street. A girl advised police that two males approached her with a gun round 1:15 p.m. and stole her car whereas making a meals delivery.
Her car, a 2018 black four-door Nissan Versa, has not been recovered.
One suspect in that third carjacking is described as carrying a black bubble coat, black pants, white sneakers, a pink masks, and gloves. The second suspect is described as a male carrying a black bubble coat, black pants, black sneakers and a black masks.
Police are actively encouraging delivery drivers to concentrate on their environment.
