A lithium-ion battery in an electrical bike or scooter self-combusted in a Bronx apartment building, sparking a four-alarm fire early Saturday morning, in line with the Fire Department of New York (FDNY).
The FDNY had been alerted to flames at 2230 Grand Concourse simply after 2 a.m. and the fire was extinguished about three hours later, with one firefighter sustaining minor accidents, an FDNY spokesperson instructed CNN Saturday.
New York City Fire Marshals decided the preliminary flames had been brought on by a lithium-ion battery that burst into flames in a restaurant on the floor flooring of the building, in line with the FDNY.
The fire then unfold vertically by voids in the building and went up by the construction’s inside framework spreading to residences on the high flooring the place the blaze prompted fire, smoke and water harm, the spokesperson defined.
“[It’s] unclear on the make and model of the device, but they had several devices in there,” the spokesperson mentioned of the two-wheeler that prompted the conflagration. “The important part is that it was the lithium-ion battery that caused it while charging an electronic device.”
More than 100 fires had been brought on by e-bikes in 2021, ensuing in 79 accidents and 4 deaths, in line with the FDNY.
