A bench warrant was issued for the arrest of a 37-year-old man who stole €59 price of alcohol from a grocery store and returned to steal an electric scooter.
The case had been put again for a probation report on the suitability of Edward Lee for doing a group service order.
However, the defendant failed to seem in courtroom for the finalisation of the matter.
Lee’s solicitor, Daithí Ó Donnabháin, was in courtroom however Lee was not current so Judge Olann Kelleher issued the warrant. Mr Ó Donnabháin stated he didn’t know why the accused was not current. The choose did comment that the report on the accused was beneficial.
Lee beforehand pleaded responsible to theft of the alcohol and the electric scooter on the identical day – October 23 2021.
The incidents occurred at Lidl on Cornmarket Street. First, Edward Lee arrived on the premises and helped himself to €59 price of alcohol and left the store passing all factors of cost with out paying for the objects.
Later that very same day he went again once more and took the electric scooter with a €399 price ticket.
While he received away with the drink he was stopped by safety workers as he left with the scooter. This merchandise was recovered.
The accused had 24 earlier convictions, together with 9 for theft.
Daithí Ó Donnabháin, defence solicitor, stated the accused had introduced €60 to courtroom in respect of the stolen alcohol.
“He was living with the Simon Community and was highly addicted to alcohol at the time. He has since returned home to his parents in Kilkenny. He is effectively maintaining his sobriety,” Mr Ó Donnabháin stated.
Judge Olann Kelleher stated that he may do 150 hours of group service as a substitute of 5 months in jail for the thefts.
